Moving On

Thomas has just finished his last ever day at playgroup.

Back in September when he started it felt like he'd be there forever, it flew by in the blink of an eye.

My baby is growing up!

I'm SO not ready.

From September he'll be going to Nursery School five afternoons a week. The sloth in me got a bit caught up in the decision making between morning or afternoon sessions. I opted for afternoon knowing that all Winter long we could fully indulge in lazy mornings in our PJ's. Besides I dread to think what unearthly hour we'd have to arise if I was expected to get all three of us dressed, fed and delivered to the school gates promptly by 9am. (I feel exhausted just thinking about it, particularly because the school is a uphill walk!)

He just doesn't seem old enough to be away from me several hours of every day. Of course when we went to visit his new classroom and teacher he was so taken by the whole 'school' deal and the fact that they had computers and real tools just like daddy (yeah real hammers, nails and saws for 3 & 4 year old's to 'play' with, his teacher assured me nobody has been mutilated to date) that he cried hysterically for 30 minutes when it was time to leave, all the way to the car, all the way home and for about ten minutes on his dad's knee. That boy can cry loud, especially in public! (Obviously that made me feel SO appreciated!)

Yep, the only other kids to cry were the one's who actually didn't want to go in at all (which has generally been the norm with Thomas and new environments) but my child simply didn't want to leave, ever.

Well, at least I know he'll be happy there.

And hopefully not seriously maimed!

That's great that he is excited about school! You should be proud.

We never left any of the boys with anyone other than family and 1 friend, until about a year and a half ago. Not even the church nursery... because they'd cry (and truth be told, if one got sick... then all 4 would get sick and THAT was at least a month of NO sleep ... as opposed to 'not much sleep').

My youngest survived Kinder last year, but still is very clingy... until last week... when he just "decided to grow up and doesn't mind being big enough for me to go do my business anymore"

hummmp... it's killing me.

They grow up too fast.

I know how you feel. My daughter is 4 and is starting preschool in Sept. She wants to go tomorrow! She is so ready and I am soooooo not ready. I keep reminding myself that it's only 3 mornings/wk for 3 hours each morning = 9 hours. Just 9 hours out of the whole week...but I'm still dreading it. I have attachment issues. haha!

That is super-awesome that he's looking forward to it as much as he is. BTW, he's absolutely darling. Gonna have your hands full when he hits his teens!

Mine was excited the first day and then didn't want me to leave the second day. You just never know.

You are very smart to pick afternoons- getting out of the house for drop off is tough.

Man, when you say it like that...hours away from you every day...just think, it will be like a little mini vacation, and you may actually get a chance to miss him while he's gone. You will survive ;)

Yeay for you! LOL...oh yeah...and of course your son!

My youngest of 3 starts all day kindergarten this fall...and I'll probably be the only parent at the bus stop doing the happy dance!

Oh, I jest of course...there will be a small tear or two falling when I realize that after 12 long years of caring for children I'll have an empty nest for 8 hours every day....but then again, those tears just may be tears of joy!

Don't worry about the tools- we have them too and I've never seen anyone get hurt.
Glad he's excited! You will be too! It is sad to see them get older though.

This hit home - we're already having to think about kindergarden because its a year away and we're thinking of (gasp!) Catholic school. I hope it half as cool as this one sounds!!!

Good on ya for opting for the afternoon sessions. Lounging in PJs with mom is something he still wants to do and you'll miss later. Savor every moment!

Thanks for popping by the HH for POWs - I hope to visit more often!

That was a cute post! I'm glad he is excited for school. When you were talking about the lazy winter mornings I found myself daydreaming of winter...hot chocolate, all of the holidays, the unwanted weight gain...

That's awesome that he had such a great reaction. I hope MH will be the same, I'm afraid it's me who will be bawling the first day of school for her! Of course, I'm sure after I get past that, I'll love the days she goes!

That's great that he's so excited to go! I know I'll be the bawling basketcase the first day I leave her - she could care less about me! Good choice on the afternoons - I am already a bit stressed about getting the slow moving MH (who definitely takes after her mommy) out the door on time!

I bet you'll actually learn to love that little bit of time, I know I did :)

Yay for preschool!!!
Cole is registered to go 5 days a week in the fall.
I. am. so. excited.
Does that make me a bad mom?
I hope not.
Because...really I am excited!

Wow, they do start them young in school over there. I'm glad Addisyn still has two years, although I'll be putting her in pre-school for a few hours a week. Will Eli be bored or nap for you in the afternoons while Thomas is away?
