Sweet Nectar

The Young Women (12-17 years) at Church have been raising funds for their Summer camp. Last week they made jam.

Strawberry Jam, my absolute favourite!

I haven't shared it. Not even a tiny bit. I have even managed to keep Eli the food vacuum at bay.

Fresh and plump juicy strawberries in a sweet and sticky syrup.

Within hours of purchasing it I had happily scoffed down 7 slices of toast with lashings of butter (because really what is the point of having butter if you don't spread it on good and thick?) topped with this sweet sweet nectar.

Now this is no ordinary jam. It is THE most delicious strawberry jam ever. Which is just as well because to cover costs and make a profit it is no doubt the most extortionately priced jam I will ever buy.

It was so worth every single penny.

Though my waistband may have to agree to disagree.

My Aunt makes jam and sends it out at Christmas. I don't know how, but I make our stash last all year long. Probably because I'm the only person allowed to eat it! I even hide jars behind yucky things in the pantry to ensure I have some on hand. Homemade jam is one of the best things about living.

Yummy, and seriously only 7 peices? Good job on holding yourself back. I would have finished off a loaf!!

I remember those days, I think I was in Mia Maids, and we had the Summer of Strawberries...I have never canned and jarred so much jam in my entire life. But I've also never had so much fun at summer camp. I came back home, after a week spent riding rapids and removing stinging nettles from my backside and sunburnt from head to toe... it was worth every single thing!

To this day I'll take exhorbitantly priced homemade jams to Smuckers (I can't recall what the hubby and I used to get at Waitrose and Sainsbury's over there) any day!

I would be weighing 2 lbs heavier if I ate 7 slices of toast with butter & jam! But you have the metabolism for that, lucky girl! Glad you enjoyed it all by yourself, that is quite the achievement.

What a fantastic innovative way to fundraise! Seriously!

And, would you believe, I'm the only one in my house that will eat any type of jam or jelly.

Their loss! More for me!

Oh, Carol, Carol, Carol - this is too much! You love Christmas, you had a secret crush on Colin Firth (I used to watch Pride and Prejudice after particularly bad dates, to make myself feel better.) AND you're LDS?! You're English, to boot (which makes you automatically "exotic" to this little American housewife)....and you're loads of fun to read. You're in my reader, and I think this is going to be the beginning of a beautiful friendship. ;-)

Oh, and I'm never going to see Mama Mia - I cannot abide the thought that Colin Firth is old enough to play a "possible father" to a girl in her 20's. He's not allowed to age.
