The Best Advice Ever Courtesy of Pamela Anderson Lee

I know that those who know me well probably imagine (and rightly so considering my track record) my quest for fitness was a flash in the pan and that now I am much more wisely investing my time sitting on the sofa with my feet up eating chocolate bars with such frequency that I must be sadly misled that they are fat free (if only, right?). What other explanation could there be for the lack of progress reports in my endeavours to be Looking Fine by 2009?

Truth is I just didn't want to bore the world (or myself) with monotonous posts on a weekly basis saying essentially the exact same things.

Here cometh the truth:

I still adore my cross trainer. Truly. I can watch TV and do my 3.5 miles in the cosy comfort of my very own bedroom every single day. Well maybe not every single day because that was a tad OTT so I have settled on 5 days a week, which is a 500% improvement on the rest of my life.

I can both see and feel the progress I am making. My abs aren't so far away anymore. Yippee! Not that you'd be able to tell in a million years of course because my body is currently hiding beneath numerous layers of clothing in an effort to combat the hideously gloomy wintry weather.

I have a disease. The extra 1.5 miles I do on the trek to get Thomas from school has become something of an addiction. One day Rob was going to collect him and I actually persuaded him to walk so I could go along too and another day I had to collect him in my car because Rob needed me to be back quickly and I actually felt both sad and disappointed that I couldn't walk there. Such thought processes cannot be healthy surely? There is just a massive sense of achievement about hauling my newly toned backside up a hill whilst pushing a 2.5 year old toddler. It just makes me feel like superwoman.

On my last trip to the supermarket I broke my biggest bad habit. I didn't buy any chocolate. Getting the kids in bed and devouring chocolate has been a massive part of my routine since day 1 of Thomas sleeping through the night. My little well deserved celebration at having survived another parenting day. I decided now if I am hungry in the evenings I can have an apple (talk about being indulgent) or at best a bowl of cereal. Lucky me!

But this week I came across the best advice ever whilst reading a magazine when I was supposed to be working. The unlikely source of the advice? Pamela Anderson Lee.

Major paraphrasing here but she said in essence if you feel tempted to eat something you shouldn't and will regret it later, go brush your teeth, and I have to agree with Pammy here (which is something I never imagined saying) but it works a treat. I couldn't even consider eating those crisps or drinking my Dr Pepper when my teeth were freshly clean and minty fresh.

Try it, it just might revolutionise your life.

But if it doesn't blame Pammy, not me!

Ooohhh I love her advice :)

I am addicted to the walk home from work. I get really upset if there is some reason I cannot walk home. It throws off my entire evening. I really enjoy my 1.45 miles of quiet time.

I've heard that tip about brushing your teeth too - things just don't taste as good when your mouth is all minty and tingly.

Way to go! I'm quite impressed (and certainly not bored) with your Looking Fine endeavors!!!

That is good advice...not only would I not want to ruin the feeling of clean teeth, but there's also the fact that toothpaste totally changes the taste of things.

yeah for you..exercising and all!!
i have to admit that the teeth brushing thing does tend to curb the eating urge.
we are having nice fall:) weather this week. enjoy your winter:(

good lord, I'll have no enamel left on my teeth! (but I can see how it might work) I'll try it and let you know what I think and if I hate it I will email Pam!

If that is a disease, I really need to catch it. I wish I had that kind of obsessive compulsion for exercising. I still hate it. I still do the bare minimum, but I have to say that I feel so great afterward (well first I feel like I want to die, but once that feeling passes, I feel great).

Who know Pam could be so wise? First Kid Rock with his celebs and politics statement and now Pam. This must be a sign of the apocalypse.

Congrats on your progress. Don't forget to link up your post.

I have actually done this but sometimes temptation is just too great ;)

Now I never thought I would hear something bright come from Pamela! Seriously, that is a great tip. Good for you for passing on the chocolate!

Eh... vaguely reminiscent of the stop smoking plan? Maybe she nicked the idea from that. I'm just jealous of her cos she was once engaged to Chachi. AKA Scott Baio.

Brushing the teeth does work, if you really want it to, but I love a little self-indulgence after bedtime :)

Way to go, I'm the same way, I hate missing a workout. Majorly bums me out (I'm being serious, really)

Oh my gosh, I had a girlfriend who did that trick in college. She always wanted sweets late, and would brush her teeth so she wouldn't eat. She said it worked great, will have to try!

good for yo, you are working hard!

Um, I am very against cuttin gout the snacks and choclate, that;s why I NEVER BRUSH MY TEETH, the added benefit is that my husband has stopped pestering me for sex! waa-hoo......AHAHAAAA, I'm kidding! Brushing my teeth would NEVER stop me form stuffing MA FACE!

First off, I think you and I have the same mommy celebrations every night. I feel Kit Kats are worthy of me surviving the day.

But, I have to agree that brushing your teeth probably does save you from eating all sorts of stuff. Might have to put my tootbrush where my kit kat's are currently residing.

Great points!

So true. NOTHING tastes good with minty toothepaste.

Good job on keeping up with the workouts! Lucky you that your abs are coming out of their hiding place!

I have heard of the brushing your teeth tip too. It does work. So does chewing a piece of gum. It kind of takes your mind off of what you want to eat.

I sometimes clean my teeth WITH Dr. Pepper

its delicious

wow I'll have to try that. My looking fine by 2009 quest is progressing slowly as well, so maybe this will be the thing that jump starts it! of course I'll probably come up with some random justification in my head, like I'll just brush them again later, but whatever! I'll check it for sure :)

What great advice! I may start using this advice...I hate how anything tastes after I brush my teeth!

Hi, just wanted to let you know that I love reading your blog! You make me laugh sometimes, the outlook you have on life is great! Glad things are working out for you. Keep up the good work, I'll need some good advice for after this baby is born.

Ok, I think I'll try that. It works at night when Jon offers me chocolate icecream and I've already brushed my teeth....so maybe I need to do it purposefully. But.....oh how can you give up chocolate?!

I took my implants out when pammy did, why wouldn't I follow this advise as well.

Wow! I'm impressed! I really wish I had the motivation to work out, I think I would feel better but that longest I've ever done it was for about 1 month and I hated every second of it!

Melissa said...

that is a good tip! EVERYTHING tastes hideous after brushing your teeth! (except water, that is, and at least that's good for a person)

Mama Smurf said...

That's a very good idea. I'll have to try that.

Good idea about the brushing but I will say that I got the idea from you, for sure!

Ah, Pammy. I knew she was the fount of all good things.

Who knew that Pamela had a bright idea?
I for one love it!
