Giving Thanks at the Wrong End of November

I may not be American and I may not officially recognise the Thanksgiving holiday as such but today I would feel beyond ungrateful if I didn't give just a little, but very specific thanks.

I am eternally thankful for the inventor/creator or the portable DVD Player.

Yesterday we had a 5 hour trip to take with the kids to a family baptism.

Anything beyond an hour these days requires a family sized pack of sedatives to ensure we all survive.

So we may have borrowed the DVD players without asking from the in laws house while they were away.

We may have even had to listen to Aristocats and Cars simultaneously, but that was a joyous and welcome treat in comparison to the whining, grumping and pouting we usually have to contend with. (Besides isn't the Cars soundtrack pretty cool? Or is that just me?)

I now know what is going on my list to Santa.

It may not be very indulgent but anything sanity preserving has to be the best gift EVER!

We're thinking of driving half way across the country for Christmas and I don't know what to do because Ciara broke her DVD player a while back. DISASTER!
Looks like I may be saving some $ for an early Christmas gift to myself.

We're on a Cars and Aristocats diet these days too. I actually have never seen the Aristocats, but I can recite it line by line. And why does Edgar want to kill the cats? It makes no sense whatsoever!

I love those things! But mostly for myself. Anytime I'm headed out on a long roadtrip, I get my DVD player, headphones, pillows and hunker down for a nice drive:)

Cars soundtrack is the best! Do you guys watch our Office show? I mean I know you invented it and all but last week they sang to Life is a Highway on a road trip, it was pretty funny stuff.

We love our portable DVD players. They were a gift last year right before we took a trip to visit my parents in Utah (a six hour drive). My parents bought them and shipped them out as an early Christmas present.

They are definitely sanity savers, life savers, and whining crying savers.

I hope you've been a good girl so Santa will bring these to you!

That sweet little piece of electronic genius saves us every single time we travel (when we go to Brasil it's 24 hours door to door). I don't know what I would do without it!

We NEVER travel without ours. NEVER. The perfect thing to give thanks for. Quiet children....entertained in the car children...a little sanity while traveling? Ahhh. That is a blessing indeed. And yes, put one on your list....you'll always be glad you did!

I would have to agree. The DVD player is a definite lifesaver on long trips with little ones. Ours is currently broken :( so I'm hoping Santa will bring us a new one too...preferably one that's a little more durable.

Amen! Ours is portable, so it has gone many, many places other than just the car.

Those things are a modern day miracle. Truly. Though when we used ours to come back from Cornwall, I still kind of uncomfortable with the sheer amount of tv i was making them watch. Though I couldn't put up with the moaning either, so I got over it pretty quickly..

it doesn't have to be thanksgiving to be grateful for a peacfule car ride. I too went on a 5 hour drive this weekend. I could have used one of those!

Oh yes, I often think of our ancestors in heaven being jealous that we have such handy things as portable DVD players, no fair for them!

You know you're an American at heart, dear. I think of you as half-American, anyway. Because if I've been Anglicised by the Pages, you've been Americanized by the Knights. Thatcher!
