Probably 20 years ago one toy that was very big at the time was the "helicopter rescue" game, it consisted of a battery powered helicopter that was on a tether that circled round and around that with controls you could increase speed and elevation even hover once you got good enough. The goal was to use the little hook suspended from the helicopter to lift and rescue a stranded plastic person from imminent doom. It was too big to wrap up so it stayed hidden from prying eyes until all the little ones went to sleep then was brought out to "make sure it worked" as my brother-in-law said. We were having a big family party with kids, spouses and grand kids at Grandma's house in sunny southern California that year. Seems that all the "boys" had to check it out so as to be able to assist the kids in being able to rescue the hapless plastic person, in fact much of the night was spent from say 11PM until around 0400 AM making sure that it worked the way it was suppose to. So when 2 hours rolled around and all the kids woke up (I always wondered why my parents were so tired when I woke up from Christmas after having gone to bed at 6PM Christmas Eve) The kids immediately fell in love with the toy, but to our dismay after only about 5 minutes of play it stopped working??? My brother-in-law being the fix it type immediately went to work finding the problem. He found that the batteries had been all used up? His excuse to the kids was that Santa used military batteries since he being in the Air Force at the time used them for everything. A quick change of batteries and the game was going again. So when things don't always work look to the Dad (big boy at heart)to find out why.<BR/> Hope everyone had a Merry Christmas and a prosperous and Happy New Year.
